Evaluation is complete! We are happy to report after a thorough 12 month testing and demo period that the School of Medicine decided to continue using NewLine screens as our primary collaboration devices! Thank you to everyone who participated!
This is a demo unit under evaluation — NewLine has loaned KPSOM a 65" Z-Series Interactive Screen for us to try out as a possible upgrade to our current NewLine X6 screens. No decisions have been made yet! We want your feedback.
Overview
NewLine has loaned KPSOM a 65" Z-Series Interactive Screen for us to evaluate as a potential replacement for our existing NewLine X6 screens. This article walks you through what's new on the Z Series and how the two screens compare spec-for-spec — so you can help us decide whether it's worth making the switch.

What's New on the Z Series
Here's a quick look at the upgrades the Z Series brings over the X6.
Enhanced Audio-Visual Experience
The Z Series is a noticeable step up for both sound and picture quality:
- 8-microphone array with automatic gain control and echo canceling — voices come through clearly from anywhere in the room, no need to huddle near the screen.
- 2.1 channel speaker system (2 × 20W speakers + 1 × 15W subwoofer) for rich, full audio.
- Optically bonded 4K display with a 178° viewing angle — crystal-clear image no matter where you're sitting in the room.
Superior Built-In Camera
The Z Series includes a flexible 4K modular camera with a wide 120° field of view. It can tilt up or down by 15° to get the right angle for your classroom or meeting room setup — no awkward repositioning needed.
Two Remotes: One for the Screen, One for the Camera
The Z Series comes with two dedicated remotes — one controls the screen itself, and one controls the camera. The camera remote unlocks a handy feature called AI Auto Framing, which automatically zooms in and follows whoever is speaking in front of the screen. No manual camera adjustments needed during a lecture or meeting.
Better Touch Experience
Writing and drawing on the Z Series feels more natural thanks to two smart technologies:
- Object Recognition — the screen can tell the difference between a finger, a pen, and your palm, and reacts accordingly (marker, thin pen, or eraser). No mode-switching required.
- Palm Rejection Technology — the capacitive touch display knows the difference between a stylus or fingertip and an accidental palm or wrist contact, so resting your hand on the screen won't mess up your work.
Spec Comparisons: Z Series vs. X6
The images below show a side-by-side spec breakdown of the Z Series and the X6 across five categories. These are pulled directly from NewLine's comparison materials.
Display & Power
The Z Series offers a higher-resolution, optically bonded display with a wider viewing angle and updated power specs compared to the X6.
Touch
The Z Series upgrades to capacitive touch with Palm Rejection and Object Recognition — a meaningful improvement over the X6's touch technology for writing and annotation.
Camera
The Z Series adds a 4K modular camera with AI Auto Framing — the X6 does not include a built-in camera with these capabilities.
Microphone
The Z Series includes an 8-mic array with echo canceling and automatic gain control, offering a significant upgrade in audio capture over the X6.
Speaker
The Z Series features a 2.1 channel speaker system with a subwoofer, delivering noticeably richer audio than the X6's speaker setup.
